Communications Museum - Science and Arts Activity for Primary Students, 2024

REGULATIONS

1. General Theme: The Beauty of Balance

The balance of forces allows objects to remain stationary or at uniform motion. This activity aims to show the creativity of students, from design to assembly, as they attempt to build a unique three-dimensional installation art piece on balance, while learning the relevant scientific principles through its construction process, to develop a rich artistic imagination and to promote the initiative "Dare to experiment. Dare to discover".

2. Qualifications:

All full-time primary students in Macao are qualified to participate. However, each participant can only join one team.

  • Group A - Parent-child Team: Maximum of 2 students in each team (can be a mix of primary 1 to 3 students) together with a maximum of 2 parents;
  • Group B - School Team: No limit to the number of teams each school can participate. Maximum of 3 students in each team (can be a mix of primary 4 to 6 students).
3. Entry Specifications & Requirements:
  • All submitted works should be three-dimensional; two-dimensional works will not be accepted;
  • The work must be handmade and self-assembled, modification from existing finished products will not be accepted;
  • The work should reflect the application of the concept of balancing force in physics; Use of environmental friendly materials is encouraged. Additional functions and/or decoration of the work are also accepted;
  • There is no restriction on the shape of the work, but the size should not exceed 15cm x 15cm x 25cm(h);
  • Each team can only submit ONE entry. Title of the submitted work is proposed by the team.
4. Registration and Work Submission:
  • Online registration at the website of the Communications Museum (www.cmm.gov.mo) in order to register and upload following information for the First Stage Evaluation through the link:
    • Work description: A file limited to 1GB, containing text/drawing/sound/image to describe the work's concept and working principle in PowerPoint/Keynote format;
    • A short operations clip of the work: A short clip within 10 seconds to allow the judges appreciate if the participating work fulfills the production requirement on the theme;
  • Deadline for submission : 22:00 on 4/12/2024 (Wednesday). Late submission will not be judged;
  • The list of "Outstanding Works" selected for the Second Stage to be announced on the website of the Communications Museum before the mid December 2024;
  • Second Stage Evaluation: The participating teams notified to enter the Second Stage should submit the same three-dimensional works as for the First Stage Evaluation at the Reception of the Communications Museum, within the limited period. Late submission will not be judged.
5. Prizes:
  • Three Excellence Prizes: Selected from each group, will be awarded with certificate, trophy and coupons valued at MOP2,000.00;
  • Participation Award for Group B: A trophy will be awarded to the school that has submitted the most number of works meeting the entry requirements;
  • Supervisors of Group B: Maximum of two in each team will receive souvenirs. Souvenirs will not repeatedly be given to the same supervisors;
  • All "Outstanding Works" will be exhibited in Communications Museum.
6. Judges:

Organizer and co-organizer will invite professionals to be the jury. The result is subjected to the final decision by the jury.

7. Evaluation Criteria:
  • Creativity (30%): Work production and interpretation in unique and innovative properties and effects;
  • Scientific principles (20%): Accuracy to apply and explain scientific principles for work production;
  • Production skills (25%): Ability and proficiency to use different material in the creation of work ;
  • Work description (25%): Ability to describe in a clear and interesting way the design and application of work.
8. Declaration:
  • No effective staff of Macao Post & Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) is allowed to participate in the Activity;
  • Personal data, collected for this activity and on the registration form will be used solely for the arrangement of activity and handled according to the Statement of Personal Data Collection of CTT;
  • The content of the creative work cannot contain any indecent, violent or illegal content and must not violate the laws of Macao SAR;
  • The submitted work must not have been previously published, awarded any prizes or be bound by any copyright restrictions;
  • The Organizer reserves the rights to broadcast submitted entries in the Communications Museum or other media channels for the purpose of promotion without prior permission of the participants or remuneration;
  • No submitted works will be returned. The copyright of the winning works belong to CTT.
