Visitors can explore two types of the commonly used telephones: the Decadic Pulse Telephone and the DTMF Telephone, including their components, the telephone operation mechanism and how to establish the Telephone Line Loop to the Telephone Exchange.
Visitors can use two replicas of a Bell telephone to communicate with each other. The two telephones are connected by Copper Wire fixed to wooden poles and the Sound Quality will be that of the original telephone.
Visitors see an Artifact of an old Manual Switchboard and three early telephones. Visitors can pick up one of the early telephones and turn the crank to ring the bell in the Switchboard. If there is someone there, who plays the role of the Operator, he/she can connect the visitor telephone to another one manually. And visitors can talk with each other with the Connected Telephones.
This Siemens F1 Telephone Exchange was installed in Macao on 8th December 1929. It is based on the Strowger Technology, generally known as Step-by-Step. Its long last operation and great services provided to Macao Population throughout half a century are worth mentioning.
The Crossbar System ARF503 is a Dial Switching System (Digit to Digit) working to a modified Step-by-Step principle. During the decade of 1970's and the beginning of the 1980's, the Ericsson ARF503 System provided a total number of 12,000 lines installed in Macao and 1,200 lines installed in the Islands.
