LI Wen Ru, Ph.D. is from the Dai County in Shanxi Province. Apart from being a researcher, he is also the current Deputy Director of the Palace Museum, Vice Chairperson of ICOM China, Ph.D. tutor at the Chinese National Academy of Arts, part-time professor at the Graduate School of The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhejiang University and Nankai University. After he was graduated from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at the Shanxi Normal University in 1976, he taught in the said Department from 1976 to 1990. Between 1984 and 1987, he also took up a part-time role as the Deputy Director of the "Shanxi Normal University Journal". From 1987 to 1989, he was the Deputy of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Shanxi Normal University. In 1990, he was transferred to the research centre at the Beijing Luxun Museum. Since 1992, he was Assistant to Director of the Beijing Luxun Museum. From 1997 to 1998, he was the Deputy Director of the "Weekly of China's Cultural Relics". From 1998 to 2000, he was the Director of Division of Museums of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. From 2000 to 2003, he was the Director and Chief Editor of both the "Weekly of China's Cultural Relics" and "World Cultural Relics Magazine". In July of 2003, Prof. Li was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Palace Museum by the Ministry of Culture.
From 1995 to 1996, he was in charge of the exhibition about Luxun's Life at the Beijing Luxun Museum. It was awarded the Top Ten Exhibitions throughout Museums in China. From 2000 to 2003, he hosted the yearly selection of the Top Ten National Archaeological Discoveries and the Top Ten Exhibitions throughout Museums in China. He was also the Chief Editor of publications including "Zhongguo Bowuguan Chenlei Jingpin Tujie, Vol.I, II & III", "100 Archaeological Discoveries of China, vol.I & II", "China's Museums under the Condition of Globalization","Zhong Hua Wen Ming Yi Ji Tong Lan" and "Case studies of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Cultural Relics". As the Deputy Director of the Palace Museum, he also took up a part-time role as the Principal of the Forbidden City Publishing House (2004-2006) and the Chief Editor of the monthly journal "Forbidden City" (2004-2008). He was the Chief Editor of the "Palace Museum Journal", "The Palace Museum", "80 Years of the Palace Museum", etc. The publishing work of "Encyclopedia of the Forbidden City" is in progress.
Prof. LI has been participating in the teaching and research work of Modern Chinese Literature, Luxun studies, education and research of museology. Over 50 pieces of his thesis have been published in "Modern Chinese Literature Researches Series", "Monthly Journal of Luxun Studies", "History of New Literature" , "China's Museums", "Palace Museum Journal", "Weekly of China's Cultural Relics", "China Culture Newspaper", "Guangming Daily", "People's Daily", etc. They were also posted in "Xinhua Wenzhai". Prof. Li is also the author of books specialized in Luxun and museum studies.
