Stamp design is an art creation. Firstly, Macao Post will discuss with the stamp designer on the content of the stamp, way of expression and finishing of the stamp so as to create a hand-drawing or electronic artwork for the design. When the artwork is approved, some works for color separation will be prepared. Then the design for the inscription of stamps, page layout and emission chop will be carried out. After this, the artwork for the whole set of stamps is completed and it will be sent out for color separation.
The stamps of Macao are all printed by the printing houses from abroad or in mainland China because there is no qualified secure printing house in Macao. This issue of panda stamps is printed on adhesive stamp paper by offset lithography in Beijing PSPH. There is a set of color codes at the margin of the stamp sheet to mark the colors used for printing the issue. During the printing process, Macao Post will receive various proofs from the supplier for verifying the printing quality to ensure that it meets the requirement.
After the stamp printing is finished, the printing sheet will be produced. It will be cut into stamp sheets and then perforated. After the finished product is examined, Macao Post will use it to produce First Day Covers, Brochures, etc. This issue of stamps is designed by Mr. Au Man Hou. It includes a set of two stamps of different face values, each of size 30 x 40 mm, and a souvenir sheet of 138 x 90 mm.
Welcome to bring cameras and take photos with our Giant Panda doll at the panda background!
After taking the picture and selecting the background, visitors can print their postcards by placing their Entrance Cards against the card reader. In addition to mailing the postcard by buying a stamp at the Museum Shop, visitors can also download their postcards from the museum website (http://macao.communications.museum) by inputting the code printed on the upper right-hand corner of the postcard. Moreover they can write their own messages and email the postcard to their friends.
After touring around the main exhibition area, visitors can use their entrance cards to "Design Your Own Stamp" with templates, fly over Macao in the "Flight Simulator", take a "Personal Picture Postcard" and send it to their families and friends, perform the weather forecast in the "Greenscreen Studio", try the Van de Graaff that makes their hair stand, dial the old telephone to call their friends, watch the films at "Mini-Theatre" and hunt the treasure in the "Stamp Lounge"
Basic guided visit: How do babies communicate with others before they learn to speak? Let us listen to a sound track. Is it a language? What does it want to express? Besides language, human beings can use body gestures, facial expressions or simple signs/pictures to express our thoughts. Students will be invited to participate in interactive demonstrations.
Basic guided visit: Kangaroo Ah Sing tells why we need to post a letter and where should we post it. Students are invited to participate in a role play to learn the correct place to stick the stamp and write the name and address of recipient and sender on the envelope. Of course, we have to see what is inside the envelope.
Basic guided visit: The headquarters of Macao Post was completed in 1929. Since the installation of the first automatic telephone exchange in the Far East of Asia in that year, telephone has been popularized among every household. Let us guess which year it is for the Macao shown on the stamps. Can we explain the changes of coast line and area of Macao with our knowledge in geography? From ancient times to modern days, by seeing the distribution of old and new postal facility, let us look for a post office that is located in the area that we live in. We can also make a letter box to decorate our home!
Workshop: Participants will make their own Mother's Day cards
Workshop: Participants will learn about message encoding and decoding, and apply this knowledge to make special greeting cards with secret messages to their mothers and beloved ones.
Workshop: During the 90-minute visit, our facilitators will make use of interactive games to introduce the different ways of communication and how to use sound, symbols, body languages and facial expressions to convey human messages. Participants will also be invited to show what they have just learned through live demonstrations. Then our facilitators will teach them how to make their own magical fan with the use of paper plates. They will create images on both sides of the fan by drawing and using stickers. Then when they rotate the fan speedily, an interesting animated image will appear. It's great fun!
Workshop: In the 90-minute visit, our facilitators will explain about envelopes, stamps and postal service. Participants will be invited to take part in a role play to identify the correct use and positions of stamps, name and address of sender and recipient, respectively. Then they will be provided with materials to design and make their own aerogramme. This not only helps them solidify what they have just learned about the types of letter post, but also gives them an opportunity to actually write a letter to their friends or families.
Workshop: During the 90-minute visit, our facilitators will introduce the history of postal facilities in Macao and share the interesting information of post stations with participants. Then, participants will be provided with colorful cardboard paper to create their own pillar box.
