2009 SUMMER ACTIVITIES ? COMMUNICATINS MUSEUM

Summer holiday is coming! In addition to the summer vacation curriculum organized jointly with Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Communications Museum will organize four "brains-on, hands-on" workshops for youth and schools with flexible timetable. Let?s enjoy and experiment a happy summer holiday with science!

In order to facilitate the process of application, Communications Museum accepts individual application in a "first come first served" basis and group application by schools or entities. Interested participants are welcome to send their application form together with course fees to the Reception of the Museum, from 13th May (Wednesday) to 24th June (Wednesday). Fees will include expenses of application and course materials, and participants can take their handmade works home as a souvenir at the end of the activity.

Workshops with rich contents covering the fields of communications and science are as follows:

"Production of Wind Power Generator"

Human beings learn from the nature to apply wind energy in industrial production and our daily life. This workshop will introduce the principles of wind power generation and explain the main construction of an electric generator in order to let participant design, assemble and install their unique generator.

"Production of Electromagnetic Crane"

The invention of electricity brightens the live of mankind and makes it more convenience. The popularity of the principles of electromagnetism increases and promotes the development and efficiency of electrical devices. This workshop will introduce electromagnetic induction in details and how to apply the Principle of Lever and the Ampere?s Law. Participants will make their electromagnetic crane through the practice of soldering and assembly of circuits.

"Communication without Border"

Communication, it acts like an important bridge to build up human?s social relations. People share their interpersonal and social skills in order to enhance expression, reinforce self-understanding and emotional control through different effective models of communications. Participant can learn from the relaxed mini-seminars and special workshops how to improve their interpersonal communication skills and put it in practice to the daily life.

"New Generation, Love Communication"

Human civilizations and cultures are built upon communication ? the sharing of information and ideas. Starting from the mankind?s cave paintings, appearance of cuneiform, production of clay tablets until the invention and development of papermaking and printing technology. Nowadays, the dissemination of human culture and communication are spread out and broadcasted to the whole world. In the workshop, participants can make their exclusive works of bamboo slip, clay tablet and personal postcard in order to simulate some steps in the evolution of communications form the ancient to the present.
