Active Components

Parts Gallery > Active Components

Active Components are electronic components that require a Source of Energy to perform their intended functions. The followings are the examples of Active Components:

Diodes
Simple pn junction that conducts current in one direction only, unless the reverse voltage is high enough to create a reverse current.
Special purpose diodes
There are many special diodes with unusual electrical properties.
Bipolar Junction (BJT) Transistors
Has three separate doped regions (Emitter, Base, Collector) and contains two pn junctions, therefore has four possible modes of operation. The term bipolar refers to the use of both holes and electrons as carriers in the transistor structure.
Field Effect Transistors (FET)
A type of unipolar, voltage-controlled transistor that uses an induced electric field to control current. A voltage change on the gate changes the current in the channel. It is used as switch and amplifier.
Analog Integrated Circuits
Many transistors, diodes, resistors and capacitors are fabricated in a single chip and packaged in a small case to form a functional circuit. Each one has a special purpose, e.g. amplifier, counter, etc.
Digital Integrated Circuits
These integrated circuits process digital pulses only, and range from simple counters to multi-million component computer Central Processing Units (CPU).
Displays
Indicators that give feedback to the user of an electronic device.
Detectors and Emitters
They detect temperature, light etc. or emit light.
