Handling of Correspondence

Postal Activities > Handling of Correspondence

The Local and Outbound Correspondence collected from the Pillar-Boxes, Letter Boxes, Postal Stations, Postal Kiosks, as well as the Inbound Correspondence arrived via Maritime Terminal, Border Gate and Macao International Airport are treated in the Mail Handling and Delivery Center.

When the Correspondence from the Pillar-Boxes and Letter Boxes is transported to the Mail Handling and Delivery Center, the workers there will first separate the Local Correspondence from the Outbound Surface and Air Correspondence, and then they will check the postage and cancel the Stamps with the Postal Datemark. For the Postage Due items, a Postage Due Chop will be applied to the envelope.

The Local items will immediately be sent for sorting. After sorting, the Correspondence will be distributed by the postmen to the Residence Letter Boxes. For those Local items with already a Postage Due Chop applied to them, the workers will calculate the fee to be paid, and issue a Postage Due Advice to the addressee.

The Outbound Correspondence will be sorted according to the mailing route and the name of the Mail Exchange Office. For those Outbound items with a Postage Due Chop already applied to them, the value of Postage to be paid by the addressee will be written on the envelope. After sorting, the Correspondence will be put into a Postbag, which will be closed for dispatch.

For the Correspondence collected from the Postal Stations and Postal Kiosks, since Postage has already been checked and the Postal Date Mark has already been applied when the items are accepted in the counter, they can be directly sent for sorting. Those items that require special handling, such as Registration and Advice of Delivery, will be sent to the Registration Area, where the workers will prepare the Registration Advice and/or input the data into the computer.

For the Inbound Correspondence arrived at Macao via the Maritime Terminal, Border Gate and Macao International Airport, a Postal Datemark will be applied to the back of the envelopes to show the arrival date. After sorting, the Correspondence can be distributed to the Residence Letter Boxes. Those items that require special handling, such as Registration, Advice of Delivery and Postage Due items, will be handled in the respective working areas before sorting.
