2015 Summer Activities - Education and Youth Affairs Bureau

The Communications Museum will continue to join the 2015 summer vacation curriculum organized by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau. Introduction to Circuit and Soldering

Learning basic knowledge of electronic circuits and soldering technique in order to construct simple circuits with electronic components.

Contents:

• Knowing the circuits and electronic components (switches, resistors, capacitors, etc.) and how to use the circuit board.
• Testing the circuit, components and voltage with multi-meter; resistors and capacitors connected in series and parallel circuit; Ohm's law.
• Introduction to diodes, transistors and soldering techniques.
• Soldering training.

Photosensitive Mechanical Beetle

Construction of a photosensitive mechanical beetle which follows light to guide its way, by using LEDs, photodiodes, NPN type transistors, DC motor and their application as a whole.

Contents:

• Review of electronic components and soldering technique.
• Introduction to LED, photodiode, NPN transistor and DC motor.
• Building a photosensitive mechanical beetle.
• Building a photosensitive mechanical beetle.

Application of Infrared Communication Technology

Introduction to infrared communication technology and making the receiver. Introducing the WinLIRC and making a PC remote control.
