THE BOOKING SERVICE GUIDE FOR VISITS

Communications Museum will publish the "Booking Service Guide for Visits No.3" in September to facilitate the booking of visits and special activities by local schools, associations and tour groups.

Hands-on activities are added for both the Postal/Philately and the Telecommunications areas this year. Teachers can choose from a variety of activities for students of different levels. In order to encourage students to use their leisure time joining in interactive, explorative and experimental activities, we have just added a "Science Café" program, a service that will allow us to hold our popular workshops and courses at schools. The objective is to arouse students' interest in science in a fun-learning way. Consequently, we hope to promote the research and development of science and technology in Macao.

The new Postal/Philately "Thematic Guided Visits" programs include: "Decoding Maps" that introduces signs on maps related to our daily life; "My Future Career" where students can role-play different occupations and take personalized picture postcards in their favorite uniform; "Walks of Life" where students can distinguish different occupations from the uniform worn; "Learning by Seeing Differently" which introduces memory and perception, and teaches students to create their own signs in the activity "Let's Make Signs with Optical Illusion"; "The World of Symbols" that talks about symbols from all over the world; "Origins of Paper" that introduces the invention of paper, cultural communication; "Postpedia" where students can role-play at our Mini Postal Station to experience real-life communication; and, "Kids, Let's Collect Stamps!" that introduces the stamp family.

The new "General Mathematics" theme includes "Tangram Fun", which stimulates students' creativity through interesting games; "How Much Do You Know about MOP?" which includes a "$10 Shopping" game; "All about Numbers" which teaches students about the currencies of different countries and complicated (can we use sophisticated or traditional) forms of writing "Chinese Numerals" through the interactive game.

The Postal/Philately workshops include: "Message on the Stone"; "Postcard Stereotype Printing" where students can create the image, roll paint the engraved foam board and finally print it on a postcard; "Design Your Own Box for Parcels" which encourages students to use their creativity to make a personalized parcel box; "Color and Printing of Stamps" where students will learn color combinations and printing techniques, make their personalized greeting cards and practice printing skills.

The popular Telecommunications programs have merited continuous improvement, and include 14 regular workshops and 9 electronic circuit courses suitable for students of different levels. Interesting and explorative workshops, experiments and games that are suitable for younger students have also been added. They include: "Secret of Magnet", which has a hands-on item to create lovely magnets; "Amazing Static Electricity" and "Labyrinth of Electric Circuits", where students will play and learn more about electricity; "Production of Wind Power Generator" which is our most popular summer activity and can now be booked as a regular course.

With the mission of promoting philately and science, Communications Museum actively promotes learning through playing. "Visit for Teachers", "Stamp Collection/Telecom Club" and "Museum without Boundary" are also part of our main services. Schools are welcome to suggest tailor-made special activities and the Museum will assign staff to organize them at the school. This can be arranged during the Open Day or special events at the schools, or simply as workshops and electronic courses booked for regular times. For the Museum's services, latest activities, competitions and other information, please refer to the Communications Museum website, or find the "Communications Museum of Macao" group on Facebook.
