SUN Wei Hsin, Ph.D.

SUN Wei Hsin, Ph.D. received his Bachelor Degree at the Department of Physics of the National Taiwan University (1979) and Ph.D. at the Department of Astronomy of UCLA (1987). Then he carried out his postdoctoral study at the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center (1987-1989). Afterwards, he became Associate Professor (1989-2007) and Director of the Institute of Astronomy at the National Central University (1995-1998). Starting in 2007, he is Professor at the Department of Physics and Institute of Astronomy, as well as Researcher at the LeCosPA Center of the National Taiwan University. Starting in 2009, he became Chair of the Review Board of Science Popularization Activities of the Natural Science Council. Since 2011, he has been serving as the Director General of the National Museum of Natural Science.

Professor SUN has earned a number of awards for his publications and works. Among them, his "Sail into the Deep Universe" (2000) has been awarded the Golden Tape Award (1994), KT Lee Award (1995) and Golden Bell Award (2000). The book "Chatting about the Heaven" (2002) was awarded the Golden Ding Award (2003) and Golden Book Leaf Award (2004). Furthermore, he was presented the Superb Teaching Award by the College of Science of the National Central University in both 2000 and 2001. He was also granted the Outstanding Teaching Award and Special Contribution Award by the National Central University in 2004 and 2005 respectively. In 2010, he was awarded the Outstanding Society Service Award and Outstanding Teaching Award by the National Taiwan University.
